Terms of Service
Last updated: August 15, 2026
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of Verseward (the “Service”), operated by Andrew Chen (“we,” “us,” or “our”), available at verseward.app. By creating an account, generating a Reading, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to use Verseward. By using the Service, you represent that you meet this requirement. Verseward is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
2. What Verseward is
Verseward is an AI-assisted tool that turns a situation you describe into a Scripture-grounded Reading — a passage of Scripture, a short reflection, a next step, and (optionally) a Scripture card you can save or share.
Readings are generated by an AI model based on the situation you provide. Verseward always quotes real, existing Scripture (currently the Berean Standard Bible, a public-domain translation) — the Service does not generate new scripture or present AI output as if God were speaking in the first person.
3. Not professional advice, not a crisis service
Verseward is a devotional and reflective tool. It is not therapy, counseling, pastoral care, medical advice, psychiatric care, or a substitute for any of these. Readings are AI-generated and, while we work to keep them accurate and Scripture-faithful, they may not always reflect sound theology or be appropriate for your specific situation.
Verseward is not equipped to respond to emergencies. If you are in crisis, thinking about harming yourself, or in immediate danger, please contact emergency services or a crisis line in your country right away (see our Safety page for resources). Do not rely on Verseward in an emergency.
4. Accounts
To unlock more than your first free Reading, you need to create an account using an email address and password, or by signing in with Google. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity under your account. Let us know right away at hello@verseward.app if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission.
You agree to provide accurate information when creating an account and to keep it up to date.
5. Free tier and plans
Verseward offers a free tier and a paid subscription ("Verseward Plus"). Current plan details, pricing, and what's included in each tier are described on our Pricing page, which may be updated from time to time.
Free tier: your first Reading is available with no account required. Creating a free account unlocks additional free Readings, as described on the Pricing page at the time you sign up.
Verseward Plus: a recurring subscription (billed monthly or annually, at your choice) that unlocks a higher monthly allowance of Readings and additional features described on the Pricing page.
6. Billing, auto-renewal, and cancellation
Verseward Plus subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period (monthly or annually, depending on your plan) until you cancel. By subscribing, you authorize us — through our payment processor — to charge your payment method on a recurring basis at the then-current price for your plan.
You can cancel anytime from your account settings. When you cancel, you'll keep access to Plus features through the end of your current billing period, and you will not be charged again after that period ends.
Payments are processed by Creem, acting as Verseward's Merchant of Record. Verseward does not receive or store your full payment card details.
7. No refunds
All payments are final. We do not offer refunds for partial billing periods, unused Readings, or subscriptions you forget to cancel, except where required by applicable law. If you believe you were charged in error, contact us at hello@verseward.app and we'll look into it.
8. Your content
"Your Input" means the description of your situation that you provide to generate a Reading. "Your Output" means the Reading and any Scripture card generated for you based on Your Input.
You retain ownership of Your Input. By submitting it, you grant us a limited license to process it (including sending it to our AI service provider) solely to generate Your Output for you. We do not store Your Input — see our Privacy Policy for details on what we do and don't retain.
You own Your Output and may save, download, and share it, including publicly (for example, on social media), for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may not resell, sublicense, or use Your Output to build a competing product or dataset.
9. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
— Use Verseward for anything illegal, or to harass, abuse, or harm another person;
— Attempt to bypass free-tier limits, security measures, or bot protection (for example, by scripting requests or creating multiple accounts to get around usage limits);
— Reverse-engineer, scrape, or use automated means to extract Readings, card artwork, or other content from the Service at scale;
— Use Your Input to submit another person's private information without their consent;
— Misrepresent Verseward's output as official church doctrine, professional advice, or a message received directly from God.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate this section.
10. Intellectual property
Aside from Your Input and Your Output, the Service — including its design, card artwork, code, and branding — is owned by Andrew Chen / Verseward and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. Scripture quoted by the Service is drawn from the Berean Standard Bible, which is in the public domain.
You may not copy, modify, or redistribute Verseward's design, artwork, or code except as expressly permitted by these Terms.
11. Third-party services
Verseward relies on third-party service providers to operate, including an AI processing provider (Fireworks AI), authentication (including Google Sign-In), payment processing (Creem), bot protection (Cloudflare Turnstile), email delivery (Resend), and hosting (Vercel). Your use of the Service is also subject to those providers' own terms where applicable (for example, Google's terms if you sign in with Google).
12. Changes to the Service
We may add, change, or remove features of the Service — including free-tier limits, Plus plan features, and pricing — at any time. If we make a material change that affects your paid subscription, we'll make reasonable efforts to let you know in advance.
13. Termination
You may stop using Verseward and delete your account at any time by contacting us at hello@verseward.app. We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service, with or without notice, if you violate these Terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the Service.
Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including Sections 7, 9, 10, 14, 15, and 16) will survive.
14. Disclaimer of warranties
THE SERVICE AND ALL READINGS ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR THAT AI-GENERATED READINGS WILL BE ACCURATE, COMPLETE, OR THEOLOGICALLY SOUND FOR YOUR SITUATION.
15. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, ANDREW CHEN / VERSEWARD WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF DATA, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM, OR (B) $100 USD.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you.
16. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms or the Service will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Delaware, and you consent to that jurisdiction.
17. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you (for example, by email or an in-app notice). Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
18. Miscellaneous
If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full effect. Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of our right to do so later. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service. You may not assign these Terms without our consent; we may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
